Middlesex County
Middlesex County is made up of 66,000 people living in 30 vibrant and growing rural communities. Located closely to large urban markets in southwestern Ontario, Middlesex County has eight municipalities covering an area of 2,919 square kilometres surrounding the City of London. This unique rural/urban dynamic drives the economy of Middlesex County from its strong agriculture base to industrial manufacturing and retail/service business sectors.
Newcomers to Middlesex County will be amazed at what the area has to offer. Libraries, recreation, festivals, open space and the tranquil beauty of county roads, rolling hills and farmland are just the beginning of things to experience here.
Each municipality elects its own County Council and Mayor. For municipalities over 5,000 people, a Deputy Mayor also sits on county council. A Warden is chosen each year to monitor all Middlesex municipal councils.
Local government in Middlesex County is elected to manage services such as police and emergency services, and recreation. Local government does not have constitutional powers, but is given responsibilities by the federal and provincial governments.
