Family Support Services

Getting settled means finding the right resources to support your family's needs. This may include finding child care, schools, health care and social services or leisure and recreation activities that you and your family can enjoy.

London and Middlesex County offer a wide range of private (for fee) and public (free or low-cost) child care programs within the city and surrounding areas. Many preschools and nursery schools also provide educational programs to prepare young children for their first year in school.

Children are eligible to attend school at age four (kindergarten). Education is mandatory from elementary school at age six until graduation from high school at age 17. You'll find many options in the public (free) or private (for fee) system. Generally, children attend school in the neighbourhood where they live. After high school, there are many options to continue learning at university, college or trade school. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are available for every age.

Both communities offer a variety of family supports and social services that can help families cope with challenges.

There are many sports and recreation facilities throughout the region that offer recreational programs and activities for individuals and families. From aquatic centres and arenas to ice rinks, parks and nature trails, there are many fun and fitness opportunities to suit everyone.
