Ethno-Cultural Groups & Services
London and Middlesex County are culturally diverse with groups and associations that serve the needs of distinct ethnic communities. Ethno-cultural groups give newcomers an opportunity to connect with others who speak their language and share their culture.
Many of these organizations offer special assistance to newcomers as well as provide social activities, events and opportunities to participate in specific cultural communities. Some operate language instruction classes or schools.
Ethno-cultural groups enrich our community by bringing different customs, festivals, food, art and music. Sunfest, Canada's premier celebration of the global arts, is a great example. Every summer, Sunfest brings together thousands of people of all ages and cultures for four days of music, dance, crafts and food in London's Victoria Park.
This unique event features professional artists from around the world including Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and Canada's First Nations peoples. In addition, throughout the year, the Sunfest World Music & Dance Series showcases global artists at venues across London.
A number of ethnic newspapers, TV and radio shows are produced in our region, bringing news and information from different cultures and countries. Across the city, you will also find a wide variety of ethnic restaurants and specialty food stores.
The diverse nature of our region often makes it easy to find foods, language and cultural support that are friendly and familiar.
