About Southwestern Ontario
The central location of London and Middlesex County is among our biggest advantages. We are situated in the heart of southwestern Ontario Canada's southern-most region and an area bordered by the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to the east, Lake Huron to the north, Lake Erie to the south and the Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. border to the west.
Within a two-hour drive of London and Middlesex County, you'll find a mix of mid-sized urban cities with diverse, multicultural populations as well as small towns and prosperous agricultural communities. Travel time from London to Toronto, Windsor, Niagara Falls and all closest border crossings is just under two hours.
With a population of more than 2.5 million people, Southwestern Ontario offers incredible opportunities for newcomers to work, raise a family and create a better life. Known as the industrial heartland of Ontario, the southwest has a strong manufacturing base combined with technological, financial service, farming and agribusiness sectors. A vibrant, knowledge-based economy and an educated, well-trained workforce complement our industrial heritage. We are home to numerous universities and colleges, outstanding research institutes and health care facilities recognized world-wide for research, teaching and care.
The 400 series highways are the main road network in southwestern Ontario. London and Middlesex County are located just north of Highway 401, Ontario's longest highway that spans 817.9 km (508 miles) from Quebec in the east to Windsor in the west.
