The London and Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership (LMLIP)
is a collaborative community initiative which is designed to
strengthen the role of local and regional communities in serving
and integrating immigrants. The concept for Local Immigration
Partnerships, which are being developed in many communities in
Ontario, was developed as a joint initiative of Citizenship and
Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Ministry of Citizenship and
Immigration Canada and was further refined in consultation with
the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the City
of Toronto. The LMLIP is solely funded by Citizenship and
Immigration Canada (CIC).
The purpose of the LMLIP is to strengthen the role of local and
regional communities in serving and integration of immigrants
through a Local Immigration Partnership. The project will
provide a collaborative framework for, and facilitate the
development and implementation of, sustainable local and
regional solutions for successful integration of immigrants to
Ontario.
The goals of the LMLIP is to develop a
Capacity and Needs Inventory (Rapport
sur la capacité et les besoins communautaires) that will provide the strategic
framework for our community to enhance its capacity to bridge
all areas of need within the community for immigrants and to
establish the London and Middlesex Immigrant Partnership Council
that will develop a collaborative
Community Immigrant Strategic Plan
- revised
(Plan
Stratégique communautaire pour
l'Immigration) for London and Middlesex.
A
directory of services and
maps, created by the
Welcoming Communities Initiative are a snap shot of our
community.
The scope of this project will be inclusive of all immigrants
regardless of their status, age and gender.
The work of the
LMLIP Council (Revised
Terms of Reference in English; Les
termes du Mandat) will be guided by a Central Council and six
sub-councils representing: education, employment, health and
well being, inclusion and civic engagement, justice and
protection services and settlement. Two community consultations
have been held: the
Community Strategy Meeting
(Consultation communautaire) and the
Community Action Planning
Day (Journée
de planification d’action communautaire).
The London and Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership is co-led by The City of London and United Way of London & Middlesex.
